The only thing I can see in Benton County that would create some synergy with a WAC theater is Crystal Bridges.
Part of why the WAC is so popular on Dickson, IMO is the ability to make going to a show there into an entire night of entertainment. Its great to take a date to Bordinos or 1936 and then to a show, and have some cocktails at CG or Theo’s afterwards. Its like a slice of big city right here in our little burg.
Downtown Bentonville doesn’t offer that same atmosphere. I won’t for quite some time.
That’s a good point that you and the others have mentioned. Some of this is going to come down to timing. Right now Bentonville doesn’t have anything like that. But after Crystal Bridges has been open a bit I think you’ll start to see something pop up a little bit like Dickson St up there. It won’t be the same but I could see them getting something going. I think they’d certainly get something going if the WAC also relocated their main facility to around the Crystal Bridges area. The biggest problem would be waiting for it to develop. It took Dickson St a while to evolve into what it is now.

Yeah I’ve been waiting for the Mill District to keep growing and evolve into more of an entertainment district in itself. Something like a new WAC facility would certainly jump start that.

That’s something I’m looking into. I too read almost everything exclusively through the great RSS feeds we have here. Google unfortunately doesn’t have the ability to do this in RSS feeds right now unless you redirect feeds to their service. I hope to have something on this front at some point, but for anything on a hot burner now, I have nothing.
I know I haven’t said this but I actually did work in this building. I worked for a small electrical service out of Archdale NC, and worked here in Charlotte at DEC off and on from Oct. 2008 til this past July. We started working here right at the collapse of Wachovia as the economy started tanking.
We basically did work on the 2nd floor server room, 8th & 9th floors and a few rooms in the underground parking deck. We installed fire alarms, conduit pipe, smoke detectors, electrical wiring, etc.
I was laid off in July and I hope to return to work in a couple of months and maybe there will be some jobs for us in Charlotte again. I really had a blast working here though and during lunch we would either head down to South End or just walk uptown. Great times.
I got a confirmation today that American Apparel is closing. I was at the store today and noticed the Southern Real Estate “Space Available” sign in the window. I asked an employee and she said yes, the store was definitely closing. They are stuck in a lease and are just waiting for a new tenant to take it over or for their lease to run out, then AA will be out. Apparently the owner prefers mall spaces because of more traffic. Strangely enough, the store was very busy when I was there today. Probably 20 people inside shopping. I just hope it doesn’t turn into offices or another frickin’ salon. There are already like 20 salons in South End. Crossing my fingers for some decent retail to take its place.
On another disconcerting note, I was at Dharma last night with a group of about 10 people from around midnight until 1. We accounted for about 75% of the crowd there, which was sad. I doubt this place will last. Hopefully some of the new residents will bring in some more business. Dharma’s not a bad spot IMO, but I think South End could use more dives and arsty bars…not really the upscale trendy nightclub type of neighborhood.

I think what you’re talking about is on the actual Nashville West development. The Hill Center portion will not have restaurants, IIRC.
The proposed office tower in Charter Square or one of the towers in the Edison could be a bank’s tower.
A larger bank could acquire Capital, North State, Cardinal, or First Citizens to get a foothold in the market and build a tower. Regions and Fith Third already have small Triangle presences that could be enhanced with a tower. Wells Fargo now has Wachovia, so are out. Citi is pretty weak, so I don’t see them making a splash. But Toronto Dominion (TD) could see what RBC has done and chase them down to Raleigh. I could see them moving here before a JP Morgan Chase which would choose Charlotte, but I would like to be proven wrong!
In the “even less likely but who knows” category could be the European banks — Barclays, HSBC, the Scotland banks, etc. Deutsche Bank would chose Charlotte due to their airport’s flights to Germany.
I actually did not care for the Eagle. the ONE time that I went with a friend of mine, all the guys there, who were in their mid 30′s and up, they all kept staring at me and my friend like fresh meat…..cause him and I were both in our young 20′s. Was very uncomfortable.
Just stumbled onto this. This is absolutely mind blowing and it takes the idea of architecture as art to a new level. I hope this concept takes off. Buildings adjacent to public squares are perfect for this. Unfortunately, I think here in America it’s use, more often than not, would be altered and used as advertising space. Although that would be cool advertising.
