WhitebeckCourt is a 16 storey tower block, 44.2 meters tall, located on MoorwayDrive in Manchester and constructed in 1967 as part of ManchesterCorporation community housing. Previously, before the tower was built, the land it currently stands on was full of rows and rows of prefab homes, but they were all demolished in favour of several towers andWhitebeck was one of them.
In May 2008 Manchester City Council submitted a bid to the Department of Health Extra Care Fund 2008-11 with a proposal to transform an existing vacant tower block into a mixed tenure extra care scheme with communal facilities. In August 2008 it was announced that the bid was successful and Manchester was awarded £6.54 million to deliver the scheme.
